Zack and Zoe Comic.

A4,  marker on paper

This is a comic I made during Winterlab 2019. I joined a group about activist in art.

My team and I decided to discuss the theme about the  unnecessary gender separation in products, such as toys, shampoo for woman and shampoo for men, etc etc. We believe that the media uses categories for their own benefit. We just focused on the gender, since the topic was bit broad. We made several things, such as mini drawings, paintings, posters. There was no final product, it was a great process between three teammates sharing many ideas.

De kleine Johannes Tribute

Marker on paper A4

This illustration was made for storytelling class. This is a reimagined story of the original story, de kleine Johannes This book is not just a fairy tale. Some important elements play an important role, such as The life stages of a man, criticism of human society, the search for good and evil, idealism en materialism.

All of this are some examples of evolution of a person. This story was mentioned and discussed in Philosophy class.

My name is Ethanie Martina, I am 28 years old and I love being creative. I can’t stick to one style, I have a tendency to experiment and try new things. I am currently studying comic design and Artez Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Every semester, it is up to you to choose what you want to research for your study.

At first I wanted to become an artist and just sell paintings. I enjoyed painting and at first art was to me all about realism and beauty. After a car accident in 2007, it slowed down my creative process big time, but none less my passion for art. For a while I couldn’t paint as long as I wanted to. This is what led me to draw cartoons and comics.

After working for Amigoe news as a Cartoonist from 2013 to 2014, I discovered my  passion was actually for sequential arts and storytelling.

Eventually I learned that inspiration doesn’t come falling from the sky. It requires ( A LOT) of hard work. I began to appreciate all forms of art.

The most important thing I learned about art, is that art is communication, before it was known as art around 20th Century. That communication all started way back in the prehistoric times with cave paintings.
