As many of them had not worked with these materials before it was a moment of experimentation and lots of learning.

Kabèi opens on November 27 2024 at 19:00 at the Curacao National Archives in Scharloo.

Hair and Identity
Throughout history, hair has played an important role in the identity of humanity. For some, it is a form of beauty, and for others, a status symbol. For many, it is a testament to their spiritual beliefs, and they affirm their loyalty to their religion through the way they manage their hair. Over the years, hair has also become an important commodity, almost as valuable as gold.

How healthy is this commercial value of hair for our existence and the way we interact with each other as humans?

As a response to this question and its impact on our community, identity, diversity, and equality, the students of the IBB have created artworks addressing the consequences of the perception of what hair represents, as well as the prevailing commerce surrounding hair.

Yesterday, our students visited the headquarters o

Yesterday, our students visited the headquarters of the Curaçao Outdoor Industry Alliance (COIA)! They learned about the Mangrove Adoption Program (MAP), a COIA initiative focused on restoring Curaçao’s coastal ecosystems.

We were deeply moved by the information and also slightly hurt by the realization of how we’ve treated these valuable trees. Thankfully, our students can now be part of a solution by joining the mangrove adoption program and helping to replant mangroves for a healthier future. 💚

IBB wants to extend a huge congratulations to our student Axl Francisca @axle_is_king_af for winning the 2024 edition of Document Nederland junior. Axl won in the MBO category. Document Nederland is organized every year by the @rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Axl participated with a series covering the LGBTQ+ community on Curacao.

“A festival is a celebration, whether it is an organized event or a special day. For young queer teens in Curaçao, it’s a small gay bar in the center of Willemstad. Despite the limited number of LGBTIQ+ people on the island, they celebrate life in their own space.”

Congratulations are also in order for another one of our students Janicah (Jane) Castillo @v3nus.b0y_ for also being one of the finalists in the competition. Her series was focused on the Rastafarian community on Curacao.
