Yair Callender studied at the KAKB (2013) and lives and works in The Hague. Callender creates sculptures and other spatial works, sometimes monumental, sometimes on the boundary between autonomous work and furniture. At the core of his practice is his research into spiritual and symbolic ornaments and forms. He seeks to uncover the inherent meaning of these spiritual and symbolic shapes in his spatial works.
As an assistant to David Bade, he was introduced to an artistic practice with a social and societal component. This is reflected in his solo presentation at the artist initiative 1646 in The Hague, where a hookah corner was created for visitors. In his work, he actively seeks interaction with public space. During Art Rotterdam, he collaborated with NEST to create a large poetic
sculpture for the outdoor area. For the exhibition *On Speaking Terms* (2017), he created a square for the NEST exhibition space, an experimental artwork where people could meet. He himself pursued several educational paths, including MultiMedia Design, Graphic Lyceum Rotterdam, and KABK.
