Jasper de Beijer (1973, Amsterdam) was an Artist in Residence at IBB in 2017. This year he’s returning to provide our students, and a couple of lucky members of the public, with another interesting workshop.
De Beijer is a photographer who uses scale models, life size sets and computer generated images to create his own realities within the realm of photography. De Beijer has been active since 2003 and has since completed a total of eleven projects, all of which he built from the ground up in his Amsterdam based studio. De Beijer’s work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and his work is also included in a large number of collections – including those of Bank of America and Rabobank.
On Monday, May 17 at 09:30 AST, he will give a presentation about his artistic practice and artworks. Those who are interested in joining this presentation can do so on Zoom by registering through the following link: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYsf-6ppjojEtH6Mowt33kIA0Gi7bPvsY4F
Later that day and through the rest of the week IBB students will be following a workshop with de Beijer titled ‘Shadow Archive’: “In my workshop the students learn to use their existing (image) archive to make a combination of 2 or more images into a collage; the main goal of the workshop is to re-evaluate the student’s archives; to look at your own image collection in a new way and find things in them you haven’t seen before. Using a collage is an ideal way to make a layer between looking at images and making them into studies for your artwork. In the workshop week I will be discussing the students’ images, starting with categorizing them and making them into surprising combinations.”
Five members of the public will be able to join IBB students over Zoom and participate with the workshop provided by de Beijer. They will get the same assignment as our students and also participate in the evaluation of these works.
As this is a test of providing public participation through this platform the participation will be free of charge for this workshop. If you are interested in participating please sign up as soon as possible by sending an email to: omar@institutobuenabista.com.
