Look further than the end of your pencil!
Hit the ground running in the new year and feel yourself welcome on Friday night the 10th of January 2020 for an IBB edition of DrawingUnderInfluence (TekenenOnderInvloed). During this theatrical and performative night IBB students will present the results they have been developing together with and within this multidisciplinary project by Artist in Residence Willum Geerts.
And you as the public will not be sitting still this time around!
What is DrawingUnderInfluence(DUI)?
Don’t be just a spectator, but draw under the influence of light, sound, performance, projections and props. Artist Willum Geerts takes a fighting stance against the negative image of modern Sensory Overload with DrawingUnderInfluence. Why not use that overstimulation in our creative advantage?
Being able to draw or not is not an issue. Within DUI we use drawing as a way to note down thoughts, not as a pathway to masterpieces. This interactive performance acknowledges your intuition and triggers your creative impulses. DUI activates a different look on our modern world, breaks through stubborn ideas and biased points of view. With the classical nude model as a beacon in the chaos DUI is an ode to the contemporary man in all its power and vulnerability within the daily information bombardment.
By all means, bring your favorite drawing materials. Paper and some drawing materials will be available, but make things easy and comfortable for yourself.
See you on January 10, 2020 at 19:30 at Instituto Buena Bista for DrawingUnderInfluence!
DUI is one of the projects that Willum Geerts is presenting within the context of his Artist in Residence period at the IBB. In this program, made possible by the Mondriaan Fonds, three artists from the Netherlands travel to Curacao where they make new works based on the island and their experiences thereon. The results of his research period shall be presented in September 2020 in the shape of a performative installation. You will of course be informed about this event in due time.
