Maura Biava was born in Reggio Emila Italy in September 1970. She graduated at the Academy of Brera in Milan Italy in 1992. She study at the Rijksakademie in Am- sterdam The Netherlands in 1997-1999. As an interdisciplinary artist her work took her to several residencies, most recently she has been in residence at European Ceramic Work Center – Sunday Morning, s’Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, 2008. At the American Academy in Roma, Italy 2010-11. Museum Carlo Zauli, Faenza, Italy, 2013. At the ISCP New York City, U.S.A. 2014. Le Maupas A.I.R. France, 2017.
Biava teaches ceramic sculpture at the BA in Fine Art at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, The Netherlands. At the moment she is conducting a re- search for the Academy that focuses on how might an artistic approach and sensi- bility help overcome the limitations of a 3D clay extrusion printers.
