The All You Can Art team, an elaborate cooperation between the Kunsthal in Rotterdam and Instituto Buena Bista from Curacao, has been working for over seven weeks already this summer in Rotterdam. In the open atelier in the Kunsthal, but especially at various locations in the Afrikander neighborhood in the south of Rotterdam and at parter institutions in the city. In this fourth edition the focus is largely aimed at the future with a mutual ambition to have All You Can Art land at a permanent spot in Rotterdam.

Currently Kunsthal is exploring together with IBB, the municipality of Rotterdam, funds and other initiatives if a permanent location in the south is possible. A long term solid base from where new forms of presentation can be developed and where the participation of the public, dialog and talent development are stimulated. A place where the connections that are being made now can be developed. Working from the philosophy that art takes a responsibility towards its fellow man and community, All You Can Art creates connections between people of differing backgrounds, institutions, sectors and communities.

The IBB team of artists works every day to realize new perceptions and connections between people, art and culture. They do this together with numerous neighborhood initiatives local artists and partners.

Artist Tirzo Martha is working together with the inhabitants of care institution Laurens Delfshaven on a project he started in 2017. The sculpture he is making will be a functional sculpture that will have a practical function in the lives of the inhabitants.

Encounters on the Afrikaander market

The initiatives are numerous. Artist David Bade has spontaneous encounters with market vendors and buyers at the Afrikander market. He challenges them to let him make a portrait of them and makes the first sketches towards this right on the spot. Artist Elvis Chen even does this through the phone. In hall 3 in the Kunsthall there’s a hotline with the Gemaal in south. Based on the self-description of callers Chen makes portraits that the callers can then pick up at the finissage of All You Can Art on Sunday 25th of August.

There are meetings with artists, neighbors, and shop owners in the south and whoever walks by the locations is immediately —as is the IBB style— enthusiastically approached to work together on art or to exchange thoughts.
