Seven students continuing their studies abroad
Once again we find ourselves at the end of another academic year. Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) is proud to announce that all seven students who applied this year for art academies abroad were accepted and are leaving Curacao to continue their training. This year we have prepared students for both MBO and HBO levels of further education. On the MBO front we have for the first time students who are going to be continuing their education at the MBO theaterschool in Rotterdam. These students will receive training in theater design. On the HBO front we have students going for fine arts, illustration and comic design.
The students graduating this year are:
Chiou Mian Lin – Fine Arts, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht
Shaydiah Granviel – Fine Arts, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht
Jivan Dwarkasing – Fine Arts, Royal Academy of the Arts, The Hague
Taima Raphaela – Illustration, Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam
Aithel Antonius – Theater Design, MBO Theaterschool, Rotterdam
Jeanutha de Windt – Theater Design, MBO Theaterschool, Rotterdam

We will be presenting these students with their certificate on Wednesday, June 20th, 2018, at our Gallery Esmeralda during our academic year closing event.
The IBB team wishes these students all the best in their future studies!
If you also want to be part of the graduating group of students in the coming years, IBB still has open spots for students in the coming academic year. Check out the student information page on: https://institutobuenabista.com/educational-program/ and feel free to fill out the application form.
End of academic year exhibition
After the graduation ceremony we will be opening a new exhibition in our gallery Esmeralda. This exhibition will include various works by IBB students, alumni, interns and resident artists.
In the exhibition IBB intern Bram Ellens (’75) will be showing work he has been making during his 3 month stay at IBB. Ellens sees himself as a starting artist and has been using his time at IBB to experiment with various media and to further develop his knowledge of materials. His works focus on connection, intimacy and wonderment.
Our current artist in residence in the Mondriaan Fund program is dutch artist Mette Sterre (‘83). Mette will be here on Curacao till the end of august but hit the ground running with the students as the academic year is soon ending. You will get to see more works by Mette herself at the end expo of her residency period, but during Wednesday’s presentation she and the IBB students will show off the projects they’ve been working on during her workshop.
The exhibition will also feature an overview of a current project called ‘Kunst van het Samen’ (The Art of Togetherness). This project is a multipart project where IBB partners with care facilities and together focus on solving a necessity both sides have. Currently IBB alumni Tittel Boomgaart (Owner Tittel Tattle) and Syree Palm (student at WDKA) – together with six IBB students – are doing their part of the project at the elderly care facility called ‘Bo Wardador’. There they engage with the elderly residents and try to find how they can make their lives more pleasant and engaging.
Last but definitely not least you will be able to see a new set up of our collection built up during the 12 years of IBB. These are artworks made by resident international artists but also local artists, IBB alumni and clients of the Capriles clinic. These works are part of the new cultural heritage of Curacao and an important part of the current art landscape on Curacao.
The graduation event and exhibition opening is on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
Where: Gallery Esmeralda, Mohikanenweg 8 (premises of the Capriles clinic)
Time: 19:30
