We’re nearing the end of 2016 and Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) is closing this year with two great presentations.
2016 was the year IBB celebrated it’s tenth anniversary. Founded in 2006 out of a need for more structural artistic and creative education on Curacao, the IBB has spent ten years pushing for cultural, art and art education development of it’s students and of the island of Curacao in general. The awareness of developing a new heritage for the island is also of great importance to define the endeavor towards identity.
With this in mind, IBB wants to close 2016 off looking towards the future. We will be holding two presentations that underscores our commitments to our students, alumni, the local community and the development of new cultural vision and heritage for Curacao.
The first presentation will be a lecture on Wednesday, December 4 by IBB alumna Roxette Capriles. Roxette was born on Curacao and after finishing her preparatory training (course) at IBB she went on to study fine arts at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She graduated in 2016 and won the coveted ‘Drempelprijs’ awarded by the Rotterdam Municipal Government and the Willem de Kooning Academy for her graduation work called ‘Rots in Brand’ (Rock on Fire). She is currently on Curacao for a couple of months substituting for IBB founder David Bade who is in Europe for various projects. During this lecture, we will explore the possibilities of a detached gaze, ways of looking at art and at ourselves. How can critical thinking help us, as human beings in an image-driven society, and during times when we are bombarded with information in our daily life?
The lecture will start at 19:30 in Gallery Esmeralda.
The second and last presentation for 2016 will be on Wednesday, December 14. This presentation will be the opening of an exhibition with works by our second year students. The works presented will be a selection of the works made by the students over the course of the current academic year and works made specifically for this exhibition.
The opening will be at 19:30 in Esmeralda.
Esmeralda is at Mohikanenweg 8 on the premises of the Klinika Capriles.
