This Thursday, March the 17th at 19:00 the IBB presents a public interview, conversation and discussion about the changes in the art world. An open discussion with Edwin Jacobs who will be in conversation with David Bade, co-founder of the IBB. Edwin Jacobs is a museumman with roots in pedagogy and is known for its embracement of art and education in conjunction with the museum. The formulation ‘Museum as a participatory workshop’ is attributed to him.
We wonder how the director of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht (one of the largest leading museums of contemporary and modern art in the Netherlands) relates to the view of a global zeitgeist which is largely determined and dominated by aspects such as marketing, brand mark (branding), exposure and public outreach. How do we relate to that, to the (art) market, art education and the environment? And to what extent is the art distant from the origins of art or are such questions obsolete? Jacobs’ vision on collecting art is an interesting case and this has also its relevance to Curacao.
The students of the IBB wil also have an active participation in this event. They will be asked to formulate specific questions or a case based on the theme mentioned above. Presentation and debate are part of the regular practice of the IBB students, this in order to prepare them for their follow up studies and practice later on in their career.
The public is also invited to participate in the conversation but they can also send a mail with questions, case or topic in advance if they want (info@institutobuenabista.com). By doing this we want to create an evening full of interesting exchanges of knowledge and insight in the contemporary art world.
The language for this evening will be English. There is also the possibility to look at the works of art, produced by the students, in their studios. You can also meet the current artists in residence at IBB: Damian Marcano (Trinidad / USA), Marieke van Rooy and Domenico Mangano (The Netherlands and Italy) and Pepon Osorio (Puerto Rico / USA).
