Curaçao meets Rotterdam! Kunsthal Rotterdam celebrates the tenth anniversary of Instituto Buena Bista (IBB), a preliminary training institute and venue for contemporary art on Curaçao, with a summer exhibition and workshop for promising young artists. The exhibition presents work (in progress) by the founding fathers of IBB, David Bade and Tirzo Martha, as well as by other international artists from the IBB collection. The workshop, an integral part of the exhibition, offers promising young talent two months of training and supervision by artists according to the time-hallowed model of master- apprentice. The public can follow the activities all the time as well as take part in certain parts of the programme.
All you can Art, Kunsthal as workshop
IBB transfers its preliminary training institute this summer from Curaçao to Kunsthal Rotterdam. In the setting of an exhibition of (contemporary) art from Curaçao and from the collection of the Curaçaos Museum, promising young aspiring artists work on their portfolio and site-specific projects. Well-known Dutch and international artists such as David Bade, Tirzo Martha, Maartje Korstanje, Honoré dÓ, Elspeth Diederix, Lydia Schouten and Ronald Cornelissen will set up workshop in the Kunsthal, develop new work, and teach or restore existing work. A part of the programme is formed by ‘extra murors’ / ‘outgoing’ projects with which the students acquire experience in working on specific locations, as well as classes in art history and cultural analysis and the possibility of taking part in the Summer Carnival. All you can Art is a follow-up to projects in which the Kunsthal explores new forms of presentation and encourages public participation such as ‘do it (Kunsthal Rotterdam’ and ‘Kunsthal MaakMee’.
