Graduated in Art History from the University of Havana, Cuba (1984), he is specialist of Wilfredo Lam and of Caribbean and Central American contemporary art.
José Manuel Noceda was the curator of the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo Wilfredo Lam and co-directed it between 2001 and 2005.
He was responsible for the selection of the artists presented in the 11th Havana’s Biennial, Cuba (2012) and was the curator for the exhibition Caribe Expandido at the Centre Culturel de Rencontre Fonds Saint-Jacques in Sainte-Marie in Martinique (2011), for the 10th Havana’s Biennial and for the 10th Cuenca’s Biennial in Ecuador (2009).
He gave a lecture on curatorial practices during the symposium « The Black Jacobins – Barbados/Martinique » (2011) during the Black Diaspora Visual Arts.
