Dear friends of IBB,
Hereby we would like to invite you to the lecture at the IBB by Imogen Stidworthy 5 januari 2009 at 7.00 pm on her work in General and her stay on Curacao
Imogen Stidworthy was invited by the Instituto Buena Bista to do a workshop with the new league of young talents. For one week the IBB students have been working with video and audio works, also together with art historian and Liverpool Biennial curator Paul Domela.
Imogen Stidworthy is an artist whose works focus on spoken language and the voice. She is interested in situations in which the connections between meanings and languages are unfixed or unstable. If she cannot find these conditions she creates them in her installations, videos and audio works. This work is not about language as such; rather, language is used as a sonic, spatial, bodily, architectural material with which to question how we construct meaning, particularly in terms of how we define and perform communication.
Imogen’s work is exhibited widely, including (most recently): (2008) Next Up, at the Bluecoat, Liverpool; Shrinking Cities, The Cube, Manchester; Die Lucky Bush, MuHKA (Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp); (2007) Documenta 12, Kassel; Works in Translation, Digital Arts Laboratory, Holon, Israel; Unforgettable, Galerie Akinci, Amsterdam; Visual Soundings, Netherlands Institute for Media Art, Amsterdam; Re [Video Positive], FACT, Liverpool; Thessaloniki Biennale. In 2008 she won the Liverpool Art Prize and is currently shortlisted for the Northern Art Prize. Her work is in the collections of Centres Georges Pompidou, Paris; MuHKA Antwerp and FRAC Bourgogne, Dijon.
